Red Ale, 4.6%

Comments: A hoppy red ale, slightly cloudy (due the the fact that they didn’t use finings, hence the name). Not much head, what there is is coarse and doesn’t hang around for long. Slight malty sweetness, but most of the flavour is from the ample use of aroma hopping. The finish is similar, hoppy, bitter, slightly overpowering. Honestly I found this beer a bit unbalanced, the hops dominate the flavour too much, even though the beer isn’t bad overall. I’d be happy to have this again, but I won’t be looking out for it.

Overall score: 6.0/10

Pale Ale, 4.1%
Served at The Eagle and Child, Oxford.

Comments: A very aromatic beer, with plenty of aroma hopping but without overwhelming bitterness. Apparently this is brewed with a specialist American hop. Lemon and other citrus flavours dominate, fairly little malt, but still quite sweet. A very floral beer, brilliant on a hot day, but probably not a staple.

Overall score: 7.0/10
